An exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented Production Metallurgist to join our fast-growing nuclear business. In this role, you will be supporting quality assurance and production processes within the Core Design and Manufacturing team.

Our nuclear business is a leader in propulsion system design and development for the Royal Navy's nuclear submarine fleet and the sole provider and technical authority, managing all aspects of plant design, safety, manufacture, performance and through-life support.

Key Accountabilities

* Analysing samples and preparing lab reports.

* Providing production support with metallurgy issues across all special processes.

* Specifying, procuring, processing, testing and managing operational performance.

* Working closely with Production, Manufacturing Engineering and Design teams.

* Working a shift pattern when required.

Qualifications

Essential:

* Degree or equivalent qualification or experience in metallurgy/materials science or engineering with strong emphasis on materials behaviour and/or characterisation.

* Broad understanding of the structure-property relationships of metals and alloys, knowledge of welding and modern manufacturing techniques.

* Knowledge of manufacturing quality control and metallurgical preparation techniques.

* Proven problem solving skills, analytical approach, with good numeracy and literacy skills.

* Ability to work flexibly-both as an individual and within a team environment.

* Good IT skills, particularly, MS Word and Excel.

Desirable:

* Experience of metallurgy, including welding, in a production environment.

* Knowledge/experience of materials characterisation methods.

* Experience/familiarity of metallic materials manufacturing methods.

* Experience in the nuclear industry.
