Our Submarines business is offering an excellent opportunity for a Thermo Fluids Engineer to join the Fluid Systems Design team at our offices in Raynesway, Derby.

As a Thermo Fluids Engineer, you will become part of the nuclear industry's leading edge. You'll have the opportunity to use your skills and experience to the full, in an environment in which excellence is always paramount. We recruit at every level - from recent graduates to experienced professionals - and with our global multi-million pound learning and development initiatives, you'll be given plenty of opportunity to grow with us.

Our nuclear business is a leader in propulsion system design and development for the Royal Navy's nuclear submarine fleet and the sole provider and technical authority, managing all aspects of plant design, safety, manufacture, performance and through-life support. Rolls-Royce is home to some of the world's finest minds, and nowhere are those minds more keenly tested than in our growing nuclear business.

Key Accountabilities

* Designing and developing fluid systems, including water and steam systems at elevated temperatures and pressures, and waste treatment processes for submarine and shore based process systems. This includes design for safety, manufacture, build and commissioning.

* Undertaking basic performance analysis of fluid systems using commercial and in-house developed thermal-hydraulic codes e.g. fluid flow analysis of pipework systems, to determine systems losses, pressure drops, pump design selection, pressure vessel sizing and heat exchanger sizing.

* Designing substantiation and safety justification of fluid systems, including using evaluation techniques such as hazard identification (HAZOP), fault tree analysis, Failure Mode and Effect Criticality Analysis (FMECAs) and implementation of As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) principles.

* Defining operating procedures and component specifications.

* Supporting submarine build and commissioning activities.

* Maintaining in-service design justifications and responding to in-service events and queries.

Qualifications

* Experience, where possible, in a relevant, heavily regulated industry, such as Energy, Water or Nuclear.

* Experience of designing, justifying or operating complex systems, ideally chemical process systems.

* A good understanding of fundamental engineering principles and processes.

* A demonstrable ability to work in multidisciplinary teams to tight deadlines.

* The ability to provide clear, concise and accurate technical requirements in written and verbal form.

* Degree or equivalent qualification or experience, preferably in mechanical/chemical engineering, with appropriate fluid system modules.

* An understanding of requirements definition, and substantiation processes.

We offer excellent development prospects, along with a competitive salary and exceptional benefits. These include bonus, childcare vouchers, employee support assistance and employee discounts.

At Rolls-Royce, we develop integrated power and propulsion solutions and innovative technologies that keep our customers one step ahead of an ever-changing world.

Create an ocean of power. Join us and you'll develop your skills and expertise to the very highest levels, working in an international environment for a company known the world over for excellence and innovation.
