Job Description

You will primarily be responsible for supporting the Electrical Systems Engineering Manager. As Lead Project Engineer you will be responsible for delivering projects to time and budget constraints. You will manage project delivery teams, customer relationships and provide mentoring to your direct reports. As a subject matter expert in the area of electrical and electronic system integration your role will involve providing expert technical knowledge to bid submissions and engineering project delivery teams.

You will be involved in engineering activities that cover the full product life cycle from initial concept generation through to engineering sign off, production support and post-design services.

Responsibilities

1 Lead engineering project delivery teams for specific packages of work

2 Manage and provide mentoring to your direct reports

3 Provide project status reports to senior management and customers

4 Provide technical expertise in Electrical Systems Integration

5 Presentation material generation and delivery to senior management and customers

6 Oversee the preparation of harness drawings and circuit schematics

7 Analysis of electrical and electronic architecture requirements

8 Produce system and component level requirement specification documents

9 Engage in system specific design reviews, problem resolution and root cause analysis

10 Carry out viability assessments of competing technologies and systems

11 Produce accurate, high quality engineering reports

12 Provide support to production manufacturing activities

13 Support vehicle trials and exhibitions as and when required - both in the UK and abroad

Personal Profile

In order to be successful, you will need to demonstrate strong self-motivation and drive, demonstrate excellent organisational and planning abilities and an ability to work under pressure and to tight timescales. You will need good interpersonal and communication skills and be able to deliver concise and accurate reports to management and customers. You must have the ability to provide leadership to engineering delivery teams and be able to make informed decisions based on sound evidence and using your engineering judgment.

Essential Skills and Experience:

1 You are a degree qualified engineer with industry experience in electrical systems integration, preferably in the Military or Specialist Vehicle market.

2 Good knowledge and understanding of automotive electrical and electronic systems

3 Previous experience of electrical system integration

4 Experience of CAN bus system interrogation, system diagnostics and testing

5 Understanding of EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) requirements

6 Exposure to mechanical as well as electrical design.

7 Have previously been involved in bid development and technical proposal generation

8 Able to analyse system requirements and propose appropriate engineering solutions

9 Have a proven track record of technical project delivery, preferably in military vehicle applications

10 Ability to learn, understand and work with new complex systems in short time periods.

11 Be able to demonstrate a structured approach to problem solving

12 Experience of dealing with external customers, managing expectations and relationships

13 Proven interpersonal communication skills at all levels

14 Excellent organisational and planning abilities

15 Flexibility and willingness to travel within the UK and overseas is required

16 Must hold a full driving licence and be insured for Business Travel

17 Hold or be capable of holding security clearance up to the level of SECRET

Desirable Skills and Experience:

1 Strong Mechanical background. (Bracket design, Stress analysis, Understanding of Hydraulic, pneumatic systems)

2 Previous experience of electrical architecture development and harness design

3 Good understanding of military EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) requirements

4 Contemporary knowledge of existing and emerging technologies in the areas of vetronic systems

5 Experience of developing control systems and CAN bus systems for vehicle applications and safety implications

6 Experience of low volume specialist vehicle design and development

7 Experience of military systems engineering

8 Engineering delivery team management experience

9 Knowledge of VeSys ,Creo Schematics and/or other ECAD systems

10 Knowledge of CREO, CATIA

11 Experience of working with PTC Windchill or other Product Lifecycle Management tools

12 Knowledge of Defence Standards
