Sifting through an advert for a Business Analyst role can be a bit of a challenge in itself, especially in London... and that's before you even get to speak to the company.

Whether its copy and pasted job descriptions, recruiters trying to sound technical (I am a recruiter so I am aware this could potentially be ironic) or badly written sales pitches, the majority of them fail to do one simple thing...

Explain what the company are actually looking for!

So with that in mind, I wanted to take you on an 'applicant journey' (bear with me)...

That journey begins with an award-winning Digital Agency and Digital Consultancy in Central London who are looking to expand their Client & Strategy division by hiring an experienced Business Analyst.

They work closely with both medium to large organisations to help shape their Digital future and primarily work on large-scale Digital transformations. They work with their customers from a strategic angle to understand their requirements and help them realise that Digital can enable rather than restrict. With this organisation, the role of the Business Analyst sits within the Strategy space rather than the Delivery space - something that a large number of client-facing businesses simply don't do.

They work with cutting edge technology and have won numerous awards for delivering high-quality applciations across the Web and Mobile space. They have a highly collaborative working environment and this role will sit at the heart of that, helping shape their customer's futures with the help of Digital.

That journey continues with their requirements... which are pretty detailed. So rather than copying and pasting them into this job ad, I am going to strip everything back and focus on the key things that they are looking for from any prospective applicants:

* Agile - They are a business who are genuinely passionate about Agile and their current software engineering function operates an Agile/Scrum development methodology. Your role will involve working in an Agile environment so the ability to capture requirements in Agile user stories is therefore crucial.

* Consultancy Experience - Rather than your average Digital Agency, this organisation likes to think of themselves as more of a Digital Consultancy so a background in a customer-facing role is absolutely crucial. Your role will be highly stakeholder-facing so an ability to understand customer's needs and gather those requirements is vitally important for any prospective applicant.

* Technical Understanding - This role isn't technical but due to the collaborative nature of their team, you will be working closely with UX Consultants and Designers so an understanding of common principles and working practices is important. A background working on Web/Mobile application delivery is therefore hugely beneficial for this role.

* Digital Experience - The Digital space is fast-paced and everchanging so an understanding of current Digital trends/movements is really important. This organisation are fundamentally passionate about Digital and how it can impact an organisation so previous experience working on Digital transformation projects would be a huge asset.

So you are now probably thinking... 'Where does this journey end?'.

Well that bit is entirely up to you.

If you want the journey to continue to a phone call with me, then give me a call on either 0191 338 7540 or 07943721308.

Alternatively, if you would prefer to send me a copy of your CV or even an inquisitive email then you can try [email protected].

However, if you would prefer to end this journey here then all I can say is thank you for reading this advert!

Anything discussed will be kept confidential.
