Position: Safety Manager

Salary: 45000 - 50000 per annum

Client is one of the largest and most productive single site chemical plants in the UK. The company site primarily manufactures products used to enhance industrial processing in various industries such as papermaking, mining, oil extraction, wastewater treatment and textile processing. The site is approximately 600 employees. It has an excellent safety and environmental record and enjoys strong links with the local community.

What you can expect:

As Safety Manager, your main responsibilities will be to maintain compliance with Occupational, Process and Fire Safety legislation and Responsible Care

requirements and promote and facilitate a continuously improving Safety Culture, and associated EHS performance.

Reporting to the Environment, Health, Safety and Quality Manager, you will lead a team of 5 Safety professionals in providing expert leadership, guidance and support to the Bradford and Grimsby sites.

You and your team will improve the sites EHS performance through clear and visible communication of performance, auditing, identification and application of best practice, sharing of learning, training and coaching the workforce/contractors.

Key focus areas for the team include managing COMAH compliance, ensuring the sites have suitable emergency plans and arrangements in place, maintaining the sites Permit to Work system, contractor management, accident investigation and risk assessments.

You will work closely with other managers, particularly our Production and Engineering teams, to support the continuous improvement of our sites. You will take an active leadership role in our emergency plan, on a rota basis.

Finally, you will provide leadership to your team and ensure performance, competence and development is actively managed.

What we expect:

You are educated ideally to degree level (or equivalent) in Chemistry, Process Safety or Engineering.

You have gained 5 years experience in a manufacturing environment (preferably on a COMAH site), some of which will ideally be in a management position.

Also, you have a strong working knowledge of Safety legislative requirements, supported by a recognised professional Safety qualification (e.g., NEBOSH,Diploma, MSc in Safety related discipline, CMIOSH) or demonstrable experience.

You have excellent time, work and people management skills, as well as good communication and networking skills.

Finally, you are comfortable and competent in information technology skills.

Key things to look for here:

Degree level in Chemistry, Process Safety, Engineering

A lot of experience gained in manufacturing environment

COMAH experience

Leadership experience in a similar role is essential!

Safety Qualifications (NEBOSH, CMISOH, IOSH etc)

KEY SKILLS:
