Swords, Co. Dublin (office/field based, with travel throughout Ireland and occasionally the UK)

€32,430 - €38,153 Plus Benefits including RNLI Van, Excellent Pension Scheme, Life Cover, Health Cash Plan, 26 Days’ Holiday

Our client is a charity that provides a 24-hour lifeboat search and rescue service and a seasonal lifeguard service. They are now looking for a System Technician to join their team.

Whatever the weather, our client’s equipment and crew need to operate to the very highest technical standards. As a System Technician, it will be up to you to ensure this.

This is the ideal opportunity to use your skills working on state-of-the-art lifeboats and the associated equipment throughout Ireland and occasionally the UK.

You will become part of a close team, working with Station Mechanics, Contractors and other Technical staff to carry out planned maintenance, fault diagnosis and defect repair on all of the mechanical/electrical equipment within the region. It is a fantastic chance to really make a lifesaving impact on the vital maintenance of lifeboats and their equipment.

Part of your duties as a System Technician will include trialling existing, repaired or new equipment. As such, you’ll be eager to keep up-to-date with the latest technology and willing to get involved in the roll-out of new equipment, which is constantly changing within our client’s Search and Rescue team.

To be considered, you will need:

- A time-served apprenticeship in marine or vehicle-based engineering

- At a minimum, a Level 6 qualification on the National Qualification framework or be working towards this

- A full, valid driving licence

As a System Technician, you will need to be a proactive individual who can respond quickly to changing priorities and tight deadlines. You’ll also be self-motivated, willing to go that extra mile and able to work well, both as part of a team and on your own initiative.

As this is a sea-going appointment, you will need to satisfy our client’s medical and eyesight standards. The role requires you to be part of a duty rota and be expected, when required, to work unsociable hours. As this is a field based role, you will also be required to travel throughout Ireland and occasionally the UK.

An NVQ, City & Guilds or equivalent qualification in a mechanical engineering discipline would be beneficial, as would knowledge of the following: petrol or high speed diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electronic control systems and the use of electronic diagnostic equipment.

The closing date for applications is the 1st October 2017. Interviews are scheduled to be held on the week commencing the 9th October 2017.

Our client’s staff and volunteers have been saving lives at sea without prejudice for nearly 200 years. They respect and value diversity of background, skills and perspectives within their teams, and consider it essential to help deliver a world-class lifesaving service. They are an inclusive organisation and welcome applications from everyone. In addition to having the skills needed for the role, they also look for applicants who share their commitment to living their values (trustworthy, courageous, selfless, and dependable), and helping them work towards their goals of halving drowning in the UK and Ireland by 2024. This involves a growing commitment to preventative action, using expertise to work in partnership with communities locally, nationally and internationally to prevent drowning.
