Senior Scrum Master - Servant leadership, Coaching, Agile, DevOps, Scaling

Location: Osterley, West London

Duration: 6 Months

You will report to a Delivery Manager within the Content Discovery team delivering solutions for Search, Recommendations, Metadata management and customer personalisation. You will be an experienced leader and a role model for Agile methodology, demonstrating the Agile values and principles in delivery, processes and actions. Applying a highly collaborative approach and leadership techniques you will facilitate the delivery of high-quality software product regularly, repeatedly and predictably through relentless focus on the customer (internal and external), business value and technical excellence.

Responsibilities:

* Impart confidence in the team in their capability to achieve success.

* Clarity: ensure visibility to the team on key milestones and priorities coming from product agenda or technology changes. Deliver transparency on team's plans to the department and to the stakeholders.

* Operational excellence: balance effort between reliable services and delivery commitment. Ensure high quality support culture in the team. Drive continuous operational improvement through tooling and prioritised corrective actions.

* Tech direction: know when to pull in architects, principal engineers and other senior tech leaders to support the team's thinking and communicate clearly its key decisions. Ensure tech direction of the department is followed proactively in the team.

* Control risks: work with the team to identify and mitigate issues and risks. Clearly identify and manage external dependencies.

* Grow and improve an effective self-organising, cross-functional and disciplined team where individuals recognise that team success is more important than individual success.

* Help the team be data-driven and track agreed performance metrics.

* Help the team establish and abide by a set of 'norms' that help them govern their standards, behaviours and interactions.

* Ensure the team has everything it needs to do its job and remove any obstacles.

* Facilitate discussions to create consensus agreement and binding decisions. Encourage public commitments and accountability through adherence to commitments made by the team and individuals.

* Promote learning, experimentation and knowledge sharing and encourage creativity. Help the team to continuously improve their process and behaviour through regular reflection and adaptation.

* Facilitate the day-to-day process of software development and delivery and ensure the agreed process is adhered to.

* Coordinate and facilitate daily stand-up meetings, planning games, showcases, retrospectives etc.

* Liaise effectively and manage relationships with Management Team, Product Owners, Tech Leaders, Project Managers and Stakeholders.

* Collaborate with the Product lead and cross-programme teams to maintain a strategic product roadmap that identifies deliverables and milestones.

* Collaborate with the Product lead to write user stories and establish and maintain a prioritized backlog.

* Help the Product lead with prioritisation and planning to the ensure return on investment is maximized and that regular releases achieve strategic goals that fulfil parts of the product vision.

* Help the Product lead and the team to identify and articulate acceptance criteria that capture the details of user stories.

* Ensure team members participate with the right level of respect and professional behaviour.

* Support their personal development and track objectives through regular one-to-ones.

* Help the team continuously raise the technical bar.

Required Behaviours / Skills

The right candidate will have a proven track record in:

* Scrum Mastering - certified or have a consulting background in Agile methods.

* Solid technical background. Good understanding of continuous delivery, support best practices, technical debt, software architecture, scaling, DevOps, etc.

* Achieving successful software product delivery.

* Growing and facilitating highly motivated and capable teams to deliver innovative software products.

* Establishing credibility with people very quickly.

* Facilitation, participatory decision-making and conflict resolution.

* Light-touch leadership that employs a highly collaborative approach to guide people without controlling them but employing authority when the situation requires.

* Effective organisation that reduces the amount of noise, distractions and interruptions.

* Mentoring skills that demonstrate the agile values and principles in every thought and action.

* Helping teams and individuals become agile through care, consideration and collaboration.

* Experience of managing teams producing high-throughput low-latency distributed systems with strong technical ownership and good track record of operational excellence.

Beneficial Skills

* Experience in Extreme Programming.

* Experience with Functional or OO Programming.

* Previous technical experience in a development, test or analysis role.

* Understanding of Product Development & Management.

* Experience of line management.

* Experience of Financial planning and forecasting.

* Experience of Media or Broadcast Industry.

* Experience of system administration, devops or release management.

* Demonstrable experience of enterprise-scale java development projects.
