Senior Data Developer - London
Role Profile
Our Public Sector Client based in London is carrying out some development work to transition Ethnicity facts and figures from public beta on GOV.UK to live. This involves improving their internal publishing tool (particularly focussed on the chart/table builders) and streamlining publishing processes. Prototyping and development of the public-facing site, working across front-end, back-end and APIs.
The Successful candidate will: Work in an agile, multi-disciplinary team, primarily with front-end designer, developer(s), product manager and user researcher; Lead on data formats, API development, data harmonisation and visualisation tools. Improve the publishing tool, with particular focus on the chart and table builder. Deliver high quality code in line with the project goals and delivery cycles for Ethnicity facts and figures on GOV.UK.
Key skills/ experience
* Experience of delivering data driven web applications using Python 3 (Flask) and javascript
* Have proven experience of working on agile projects as part of a multidisciplinary team, with regular user research, as outlined in the Government Service Design Manual and Digital Service Standard
* Experience developing data products using user-driven methodologies
* Proven skills in developing and supporting RESTful API's
* Proven skills in developing data publication platforms with visualisations and tables
* Experience using the Highcharts javascript library
* Experience developing data standards and pipelines to integrate multiple data sets across multiple domain sectors
* Knowledge and experience of agile software delivery and DevOps, particularly: User story creation and management, Source control (using Git), TDD/BDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Documentation, Continuous Deployment
* Experience of multiple RDBMS (Postgres, MySQL) and NoSQL technologies
* Ability to develop data models for web based applications
* Experienced in meeting the Government's Digital Service Standards and understanding of how developers should follow best practice
* Operating services in an AWS Cloud-hosted environment
* Experience delivering data products in accordance with ONS and GDS style guides
