Senior Engineer - Rail

OVERALL PURPOSE

Provision of technical support to the Programme Manager and Project Manager for the planning and delivery of track renewals ensuring all technical aspects of the works comply with relevant Network Rail Group and Line Standards and safety legislation.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES OR MAIN TASKS

1 Provide technical support to the Programme Manager and Project Manager and Senior Supervisors.

2 Monitor and ensure technical compliance on all works, site and office.

3 Ensure all works are undertaken in compliance with Contractual Specification and Network Rail Group and Line Standards.

4 Adherence with all relevant Safety Legislation.

5 Undertake all technical aspects of works in compliance with Network Rail Group and Line Standards.

6 Undertake surveys, planning and programming of work, technical supervision on site, preparation of documents.

7 Hold Whiteboard/Stage Gate meetings in accordance with Babcock Track Renewals Procedure producing the required outputs to support effective and robust delivery of the works to completion.

8 Review completed works to ensure 'Best Practice' and 'Lessons Learnt' activities are captured, recorded and utilised in future work planning and execution.

SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS

1 Participate in the planning and preparation of Track Renewal works.

2 Ensure the preparation and maintenance of all records required to meet Network Rail Line Standards and Babcock procedures.

3 Assist with the production of registers for management reports.

4 Co-ordinate/Chair/Attend and record site meetings

5 Exercise leadership over other technical staff.

6 Assist in the costing of technical activities within track renewal works.

7 Ensure the preparation and submission of Bar Charts/TILOS charts, Lifting Plans, WPP's, Task Briefs and other site documentation for all works.

8 Ensure all works undertaken are planned, installed and tested in accordance with appropriate Network Rail Group and Line Standards.

9 Plan and requisition all plant as required for the works.

KNOWLEDGE

1 Good knowledge of Track Renewals Disciplines.

2 Excellent knowledge of Rules & Regulations, H.A.S.A.W and other appropriate regulations.

3 Excellent knowledge of both group and line standards.

4 In depth knowledge of all aspects of track renewals disciplines.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

1 HNC in an Engineering discipline or working towards.

2 Competencies as specified in the appropriate Core Competence profile

3 Good IT skills.

4 Good communication and man management skills.

5 Able to drive or willing to learn.

6 PTS and COSS

EXPERIENCE

* Minimum of 7 years experience of a broad range of relevant Engineering fields.

* Must be able to carry out surveying and setting out duties using traditional and modern equipment, including total stations technology.

* Must be able to lead and direct work and provide guidance and supervision to less experienced technical staff.

* Must be able to work independently without supervision.

* Must be able to carry out control of excavation and construction of track duties using traditional and modern equipment, including 3-D and total stations technology.
