Shelter is looking for a Delivery Manager to join our growing digital and creative team, to manage the flow of work across specialists in the team and ensure efficient delivery, manage capacity, manage the tools we use for tracking work, and identify areas for improvement.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.

Our growing and evolving cross-functional digital team spans front and back end development, UX/UI, content production, social media, analytics and more. We already do some brilliant service design work that affects our digital offering, our helpline and our centres around the country. We also have lead responsibility for developing and implementing Shelter’s overall digital strategy and making sure best practice is applied to all online activities. And, with a new leadership team working on a fresh organisational strategy, we’re expanding our in-house capacity to meet the challenges ahead. In short, there’s never been a better time to join us.

About the role

Day-to-day management of the delivery work for Shelter’s digital and creative team will have you working alongside Shelter’s agile teams, co-ordinating work that’s not suitable for an agile product approach, including ongoing work, projects, reactive work, print production, fixes and updates. You’ll also manage capacity across Shelter’s digital and creative portfolios, booking people to pieces of work and highlighting bottlenecks or capacity issues. Working collaboratively to lead a dynamic Kanban planning process, with Digital Product Managers, Creative Project Managers and other stakeholders to prioritise the work that needs to be done against the capacity of the team. You’ll communicate and visualise progress towards the team’s goals, managing and addressing risks, issues and dependencies, and keeping stakeholders informed. Acting as a champion for continuous improvement, providing reporting and managing the tools that allow us to track work will be important too, as will examining working practices and identifying areas for improvement.

About you

We’ll be looking for a track record in a comparable delivery or production management role, gained in either product or project teams where you managed capacity as well as risks. You’ll also need experience of agile planning with a range of tools and techniques, especially Kanban. Used to managing delivery in a changing or complex environment, ideally where you worked across a portfolio and coordinated multiple teams, implementing new methodologies or processes also comes naturally to you. What’s more, you have a real ability to bring clarity to a complex portfolio and communicate this effectively, ensuring priorities and timescales are clear to stakeholders and the team. An understanding of the digital landscape and the potential for digital design and services to create value would be advantageous.

Benefits include 30 days’ annual leave, flexible working, standard hours - no weekends, enhanced family friendly policies such as maternity, paternity and parental leave, working from home and significant opportunities for learning and development.
