Engineering Manager - Systems Engineering

This is an immediate requirement for an Engineering Manager or Systems Manager with experience of managing stakeholders in an Engineering environment.

A really great opportunity has arisen for an Engineering Manager to work for a world leading Scientific Organisation in the Oxford area. Your role will be to help guide the organisation from its existing academic setup into a commercial entity. Key to this change will be the introduction of a Systems methodology and an associated systems engineering discipline.

The ideal candidate will to demonstrate strong stakeholder management, adaptability, systems technical credibility and team leadership.

JOB DESCRIPTION & REQUIREMENTS

Responsibilities for this Engineering Manager role

- Own/Grow Systems Engineering & Realisation capability in UKAEA - set the vision and develop the strategies for Lead & systems engineering for the organisation. Ensure that resource levels and competence are sufficient and traceable; develop training, procedures and additional assets as required to ensure consistency and standardise best practice.

- Ensure on time/in full delivery - manage all project activities under their responsibility to deliver to quality, time and budget, ensuring all relevant construction standards and quality standards are met; ensure all work can be demonstrated to meet technical requirements and be fit for purpose.

- Continuous improvement - identify and embed improved working practices for increased efficiency and quality or reduced costs. Keep abreast of external and industry best-practice and actively seek to re-apply where applicable.

- Develop culture - Cultivate an environment that promotes intelligent working, individual accountability and effective delivery of construction projects that ultimately underpins the longevity of the organisation.

- Manage the Group Leaders and development efforts to ensure a motivated and suitably qualified resource profile exists. Identify appropriate requirements for training and develop and secure budget to deliver this.

- Manage people - Ensure all eAPS and absence management carried out effectively. Actively manage both positive and negative performance to ensure an efficient and effective Group.

- Manage the stakeholders - Ensure that the operational issues are managed, focusing on the interface with programme/business stream leaders, project teams, technology and interface issues. Work with stakeholders to prioritise/escalate issues as necessary.

- Managing the workload - ensure resource levels allow compliance with working time directives, and that they maintain staffing levels at the necessary level and ensuring that they respond to increases in demand with recruitment of either permanent or contract staff

Requirements for this Engineering Manager role

- Strong track record of delivering as either a Lead Engineer or Systems Engineer on a major (£2M +) projects

- Exceptional organisational development skills.

- Demonstrated ability to manage people and performance of a large team

- Experience of managing multiple stakeholders

- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and resource plans

- Evidence of developing clear strategies and turning these into actionable plans

- Experience of establishing effective collaborative relationship with academia and industry

- Demonstrated ability to manage cultural change within organisation

- A Pro-active approach to safety, with good appreciation of UK compliance requirements in design

- Strong commercial awareness with the ability to make sound economic decisions that maximise project value

- Good background knowledge and understanding of fusion science and/or technology and engineering

- Excellent influencing and collaboration skills
