Programme Management Office Lead

£46,150 - £54,180

Crewe, North West - there may be some flexibility but there is a need to work predominantly in the Crewe office on a weekly basis

There’s never been a more exciting time to join the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra). Decisions made at here affect the whole of the United Kingdom. Responsible for the environment, the countryside and the rural economy, our diverse teams deal with a vast range of issues that profoundly impact on people’s day-to-day life.

Leaving the European Union will also have a considerable bearing on our work - with Defra affected by 25% of all EU legislation and it is crucial that we align our short- and long-term plans with the current EU exit negotiations.

So, to meet the challenges ahead, we have set up an EU Exit Programme to manage and coordinate Defra’s interests in the UK’s EU exit. This transformation will be supported by our DDTS EU Exit Programme, in areas where our digital, data and technology services are affected.

As Programme Management Office Lead, you’ll play a key role in the delivery of this programme. Supporting the Head of PMO with programme strategy and portfolio management, you’ll provide a strategic overview of all programmes and projects, reporting any anomalies or areas of concern. Managing a small project team, your responsibilities will also include implementing process improvements, decision-making and governance support, portfolio analysis, and delivery recommendations to ensure we achieve our strategic goals.

To join us, you’ll need experience of pipeline and portfolio analysis in a large, multi-faceted programme/portfolio environment, and of programme-level planning in an IT-driven change delivery programme. In addition, you should also be experienced in financial and resource tracking and reporting, with the ability to develop and deliver reports to key stakeholders at all levels. Ideally, you’ll also have experience of working in agile delivery environments, using Trello or other agile tools.
