Delivery Manager

£46,150 - £54,180

Crewe, North West- there may be some flexibility but there is a need to work predominantly in the Crewe office on a weekly basis

There’s never been a more exciting time to join the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra). Decisions made at here affect the whole of the United Kingdom. Responsible for the environment, the countryside and the rural economy, our diverse teams deal with a vast range of issues that profoundly impact on people’s day-to-day life.

Leaving the European Union will also have a considerable bearing on our work - with Defra affected by 25% of all EU legislation and it is crucial that we align our short- and long-term plans with the current EU exit negotiations.

So, to meet the challenges ahead, we have set up an EU Exit Programme to manage and coordinate Defra’s interests in the UK’s EU exit. This transformation will be supported by our DDTS EU Exit Programme, in areas where our digital, data and technology services are affected.

As Delivery Manager, you’ll play a key role in the programme’s success. Focusing on a specific service, you’ll work closely with the product owner to define the roadmap for the service. You’ll lead collaborative and dynamic planning processes, monitor the team’s progress against the backlog and adjust plans where needed. As an active member of the Agile Delivery Manager community, you’ll facilitate team meetings and workshops, sharing and growing your knowledge to drive good practice. You’ll also coach delivery team colleagues and other stakeholders in agile practices, to ensure they have the tools and skills they need to deliver value.

To succeed, you should bring considerable, demonstrable experience of practicing agile development and leading teams within structured programme and project environments. You should also have experience of delivering a range of digital services from discovery through to operational, with a focus on user research. And, with a mix of skills that covers current agile delivery practices, team dynamics and stakeholder management, you should thrive on getting the best from teams, driving quality and making things happen.
