Crewe, North West - there may be some flexibility but there is a need to work predominantly in the Crewe office on a weekly basis

There’s never been a more exciting time to join the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra). Decisions made at here affect the whole of the United Kingdom. Responsible for the environment, the countryside and the rural economy, our diverse teams deal with a vast range of issues that profoundly impact on people’s day-to-day life.

Leaving the European Union will also have a considerable bearing on our work - with Defra affected by 25% of all EU legislation and it is crucial that we align our short- and long-term plans with the current EU exit negotiations.

So, to meet the challenges ahead, we have set up an EU Exit Programme to manage and coordinate Defra’s interests in the UK’s EU exit. This transformation will be supported by our DDTS EU Exit Programme, in areas where our digital, data and technology services are affected.

As one of four new Programme Management Officers, you’ll provide vital support to the team covering the IT elements of the programme. You could be based in one of the following four lead areas:

Here you’ll support senior management to ensure that governance processes are adhered to, agreeing standards and ensuring consistency of approach across the programme. With administrative support experience in fast-paced team environment you should have the ability to work on your own initiative, and with customers, colleagues and managers at all levels.

Planning & Dependencies

Here, you’ll manage, maintain and improve the planning framework, templates, and guidance for the programme and relevant workstreams. With programme-level planning experience in an IT-driven change delivery programme, you should also be experienced in developing and communicating planning and dependency artefacts to a variety of stakeholders.

Reporting

Here, you’ll be responsible for management information reporting at an overall programme level, collating status reports, and maintaining the reporting framework and tools. With programme-level planning experience in an IT-driven change delivery programme, you should also be experienced in delivering management information reporting artefacts to stakeholders at all levels.

Risk & Issues

Here, you’ll be responsible for risk and issue management at an overall programme level, creating reports and logs, and maintaining the relevant framework, templates and guidance. With experience of all aspects of programme/project risk and issue management, ideally you’ll also have a risk management qualification such as MoR.

For all four roles, ideally you’ll also have experience of working in agile delivery environments, using Trello or other agile tools.
