Job Title: Systems Engineer

Salary: Circa £45,000 depending on skills and experience

What you'll be doing:

  • Participating in Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE), architecture development and digital engineering initiatives including the development of architecture views of the operational problem space and the solution space
  • Applying MBSE tools and techniques to capture and analyse system functions, services, interfaces, requirements, and concepts of operations to support system architecture and design
  • Supporting requirements analysis and functional allocation of hardware, software, operator and other segments and components of the system(s) within the models
  • Producing model views, including SysM and UML products to support programme milestones documentation
  • Contributing to the development of ways of working, tools, processes, schemas and people to enhance the collaboration environment
  • Building trusting relationships across the programmes, drawing together product development lines from multiple business units

Your skills and experiences:

Essential:

  • Knowledge of Systems Engineering of large systems architectures, though experience or qualification in particular knowledge of ISO15288 processes
  • Systems engineering experience gained from one or more areas of the systems engineering lifecycle/ V-model, such as: systems integration, system verification testing, software testing, system design etc
  • Honours degree or equivalent experience in the appropriate discipline

Desirable:

  • General engineering systems experience, throughout the full product lifecycle
  • Experience UML with system modelling languages preferably SysML and/or UML
  • Experience with system modelling tools preferably Sparx EA, Cameo / MagicDraw
  • Requirement's definition, analysis, flow-down and traceability
  • Understanding of test and acceptance processes against requirements
  • Familiarity with the Atlassian toolset (Confluence, Jira etc.)
  • Capable of achieving the appropriate Professional Institution membership

The BAE Systems, Engineering Projects Group (EPG) team:

As a Systems Engineer, you will be joining a growing multi-disciplinary team of Engineers within our Engineering Projects Group (EPG). EPG is part of Warship Support, within the wider Maritime Services business. We are currently expanding to meet the demands of developing engineering solutions for the next generation Royal Navy submarines.

Within EPG, you will be working across crucial elements of the engineering lifecycle, from requirement gathering to qualification. You will be responsible for eliciting requirements from a range of stakeholders, and then deriving those requirements to the appropriate level for subsystem specification. You will participate in activities supporting the ongoing maturity of the design for a range of marine engineering systems.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to work on a complex engineering programme of national importance, within a supportive team who drive best engineering excellence and best practice. Future career progression opportunities could include the chance to lead packages of work, and/or develop skills in engineering people management and leadership.
